Casing
E&M Specialty also supplies new A.P.I. casing. Traditionally in the oil industry, drill pipe is purchased and supplied by the drilling contractors, and casing is purchased by the operating company. However, many of our clients in the drilling industry supply casing as part of their turnkey drilling packages. Also, many of our clients who are in the drilling business are also drilling for themselves, or wells that they own a majority interest in. In these special cases the drilling contractor and the operator are one in the same.
About Casing
Casing pipe is different than drill pipe and is not part of the drill string. Casing is used only to support and maintain the integrity of the hole or “case” the hole that the drill pipe and drill string has created. Casing is installed at intervals during the drilling process. Larger diameter casing or “surface casing” is used at about the top one-fourth of the hole depth. Medium diameter casing or “intermediate casing” is used in the middle depth of the hole. Once the appropriate well depth is reach then the drill pipe and drill string is pulled out of the hole and the casing is left behind and is used in the production stage of the oil well.
