There are several A.P.I. drill pipe manufacturers in the U.S. Two of these companies, Grant Prideco and Vam Omsco, are very large publicly held corporations. The main business model of these two manufacturers is to supply other large, publicly held drilling contractors and rental companies. In addition to the “big two” there are also several independant drill pipe manufacturers throughout the USA. The independant manufacturers usually have more favorable pricing and delivery than the majors. E&M Specialty proudly represtents all USA drill pipe manufacturers and their products. We make every effort to keep our new pipe inventory filled with those items our customers need. This eliminates long delivery times for our customers.
In addition, the oil industry boom of the mid 2000’s gave way to a new acceptance of foreign made drill pipe, primarily from China. As of February 2011, however, the US enacted stiff anti-dumping duties on most drill pipe made in China, virtually eliminating imports of Chinese drill pipe. There was only one major Chinese manufacturer that escaped stiff duties. Having to pay only minimal import duties, Baoshan Drill Pipe still maintains a presence in the USA. Baoshan Steel is the largest steel company in China that makes drill pipe. They were here before the boom of the mid 2000’s and since they have always played by the rules of US importing, they are still here today.
